Book Review and Quotes: Three Cups of Tea

Three Cups of Tea is a book that reminds me of A Thousand Spendid Suns, which in my opinion is still better because it made me cry like a fool and this book is.. well, although it has its own drama, didnt appeal strong to my emotion. Which is good coz it maintained my composure :D

Anyway, its about an ordinary guy, Greg Mortenson, who got lost after a failed attempt to climb the second highest mountain named K2 in Pakistan. And was found and taken cared by village people.. Moved by the villagers kindness, he promised to return and build a school.. and he did built a school especially for girls in this Muslim country.. not just one but fifty five schools.

My favorite quotes by far are:

1. When it is dark enough, you can see the stars – Persian proverb. It’s also similar to Chiara Lubich’s quote – only at night you can see the stars

2. Mortenson’s most important lesson – “We Americans think you have to accomplish everything quickly.. Haji Ali taught me to share three cups of tea, to slow down and make building relationships as important as building projects”

3. “With all respect Sahib, you have little to teach us in strength and toughness. And we dont envy you your restless spirits. Perhaps we are happier than you? But we would like our children to go to school. Of all the things you have, learning is the one we most desire for our children”
